Today is the last day of the #MyFives series, and we are shifting our gaze from the past to the future.
Helloooooooo 2019– I’m comin’ for ya!
Goals I’m going to crush
My wording here is strategic. I’m not setting goals that I hope to achieve; I am preparing myself to do what I intend to do!
I’m setting SMART Goals (Doran, 1981). SMART Goals are
- S pecific
- M easurable
- A chievable
- R elevant
- T ime bound
“There is no accountability without accounting” – I think that this is a BOLD quote, but at this point my husband says it so much that it might as well be his quote.
My sister (who is the master of accountability) will be holding me accountable to the SMART goals that I am setting. She will be tracking my progress and reviewing weekly updates with me every Monday morning at 5:15am. (She’s brutal!)
My Top 5 SMART goals for 2019
Here goes nothing!
Rock your world with Garbanzo
I will launch Garbanzo BETA by March 1 (make sure you are signed up for full, free access!).
I will ensure that you can order Garbanzo for the 2019-2020 school year by March 1.
Garbanzo Spanish will have 1000 interactive, story-based lessons uploaded and ready for users to use by August 1, 2019.
Support SOMOS teachers
I will create a video library of SOMOS-specific tutorials and demos for teachers using the SOMOS curriculum. I will add at least two videos per month this year.
I will equip SOMOS Curriculum Mentors to offer SOMOS specific workshops for individual districts and organizations. Districts will be able to book trainings with SOMOS Mentors for dates after June 1, 2019.
Get me some input
I am going to improve my Spanish proficiency. I have lots of excuses to explain why my proficiency has dropped off in recent years, but (as my husband also says, also probably from BOLD), “You can have reasons or you can have results, and you can’t have both!”.
have scheduled am trying to schedule (it’s not going through right now! But Sam will make sure it happens!) an Speaking OPI for December 2, 2019 at 9:00am.
I will perform at the Advanced High Level of Proficiency (okay…I need advice…should I adjust this? Having never taken an OPI, I don’t actually know where I am now or where I have been in the past. So, maybe Advanced Mid?).
To accomplish this goal, I will be watching Spanish TV shows (2 hours per week) and reading books in Spanish (1 per month). I will also be meeting with my Spanish speaking friend at least once per week for an hour. All of this will be in addition to my typical Spanish language input, which consists of reading and listening to lots of Spanish #authres in search of great stories to share.
Take a vacation
I’m going to take a vacation this year. I have details to make this a SMART goal, but I can’t share them here because it’s a surprise and my husband sometimes reads this blog…hee hee hee!
This goal will be accomplished by June 1, 2019.
Keep on learning
I will watch 2 training sessions per month from the Fluency Matters Training Website (I purchased a one year subscription, which is on sale for just one more day!)
I will watch 50 hours of Comprehensible Online conference content in March and April. How I will choose which 50 hours to watch remains to be seen–it will definitely be at 1.5x speed!
I will attend and coach at iFLT in St. Petersburg, FL in July.
I will attend ACTFL in Washington D.C. in November, and I will present (which means I will submit my proposal before the January 11 deadline and write it well enough to get accepted!).
I will attend TCI Maine and MCTLC in Minnesota in October.
