Carlos el Cleptómano Script and Lesson Plans

SCRIPT

Note: This story works best when the kleptomaniac steals things that would be very obvious if stolen: like shoes, hair, etc. 

Éste es Carlos. Carlos es un muchacho fenomenal. Él tiene muchos amigos, es inteligente y cómico y además tiene una novia súper atractiva. Su novia se llama María. Muchas personas dicen, «Carlos, tú eres el muchacho perfecto».

Pero Carlos sabe que él no es perfecto. Carlos tiene un secreto. Carlos es cleptómano.

(Teacher talk: ¿Sabes qué significa cleptómano? Un cleptómano es una persona que tiene una adicción. Es adicto. No tiene adicción a las drogas (no es drogadicto). No tiene adicción al alcohol (no es alcohólico). Un cleptómano es adicto al robo. Un cleptómano siempre agarra las cosas de otras personas. No puede controlarse. Es un ladrón/criminal compulsivo; tiene una adicción al robo.)

María no sabe el secreto de Carlos. Ella no sabe que Carlos es cleptómano.

Un viernes, Carlos y María salen. Carlos agarra la mano de María, y ellos salen a un restaurante. En el restaurante, Carlos no conoce a nadie. Pero María conoce a una persona. Ella conoce a otro cliente. El cliente es su abuelo. María ve a su abuelo y le pregunta a Carlos, «¿Tú conoces a mi mi abueloCarlos responde, «No, no lo conozco». Entonces, el abuelo de María camina hacia Carlos y María. María habla con su abuelo. Mientras hablan, Carlos ve que el abuelo de María tiene zapatos muy interesantes. Él quiere los zapatos. Carlos se levanta, agarra los zapatos, y se sienta. Nadie sabe que Carlos agarró los zapatos porque Carlos es buen cleptómano. Después de unos minutos, el abuelo de María exclama, «¡Mis zapatos! ¿Dónde están mis zapatosCarlos responde, «¡Qué misterio!» El abuelo de María sale del restaurante para buscar sus zapatos, y después de un rato, Carlos y María salen del restaurante también.

Otra noche, Carlos y María salen al cine. Carlos agarra la mano de María, y ellos salen a mirar «Mama». Carlos no conoce a nadie en el cine, pero María conoce a dos personas. Ella conoce a dos amigos, Eli y Kristal. María ve a Eli y Kristal y le pregunta a Carlos, «¿Tú conoces a mis amigos, Eli y KristalCarlos responde, «No, no los conozco». Entonces, Eli y Kristal caminan hacia Carlos y María. María habla con ellos. Mientras hablan, Carlos ve que Kristal tiene pelo hermoso. Él quiere el pelo. Carlos se levanta, agarra el pelo de Kristal, y se sienta. Nadie sabe que Carlos agarró el pelo. Después de unos minutos, Kristal exclama, «¡Mi pelo! ¿Dónde está mi peloCarlos responde, «¡Qué misterio!» Eli y Kristal salen del cine para buscar el pelo, y después de un rato, Carlos y María salen del cine también.

Cuando Carlos y María salen del cine, ellos caminan al carro de Carlos. En el carro, Carlos agarra la mano de María y dice en un tono muy serio, «María, quiero ser honesto. Tengo una confesión. Yo tengo un problema terrible…no puedo controlarme…yo soy cleptómano. Esta noche, yo agarré los zapatos de tu abuelo y el pelo de Kristal». María mira a Carlos por un momento, silenciosa. Entonces, ¡ella ríe! Ella dice, «Carlos, ¡tú eres perfecto! Porque…yo tengo una confesión también. ¡Yo soy cleptómano! En el restaurante, yo agarré el fuente de chocolate. En el cine, yo agarré veinte platos de nachos». Carlos ríe también. Entonces, él agarra a María y se besan.

ENGLISH:

This is Carlos. Carlos is an awesome guy. He has a lot of friends, is smart and funny, and he even has a super attractive girlfriend. His girlfriend’s name is María. Many people say, “Carlos, you are the perfect guy”.

But Carlos knows that he is not perfect. Carlos has a secret. Carlos is a kleptomaniac.

(Teacher talk: Do you know what a kleptomaniac is? A kleptomaniac is a person that has an addiction. It’s not an addiction to drugs or alchohol; it’s an addiction to stealing things. A kleptomaniac always grabs things from other people. S/he can’t control him/herself. S/he’s a compulsive criminal.)

María doesn’t know Carlos’ secret. She doesn’t know that Carlos is a kleptomaniac.

One Friday, Carlos and Maria go out. Carlos grabs Maria’s hand, and they go out to a restaurant. In the restaurant, Carlos doesn’t know anyone. But Maria knows one person. She knows another customer. The customer is her grandpa. Maria sees her grandpa and asks Carlos, “Do you know my grandpa?” Carlos responds, “No, I don’t know him”. Then, Maria’s grandpa walks toward Carlos and Maria. Maria talks with her grandpa. While they talk, Carlos sees that Maria’s grandpa has very interesting shoes. He wants the shoes. He stands up, grabs the shoes, and sits down. No one knows that Carlos grabbed the shoes because he’s a good kleptomaniac. After a few minutes, Maria’s grandpa cries out, “My shoes! Where are my shoes?” Carlos responds, “What a mystery!”. Maria’s grandpa leaves the restaurant to look for his shoes, and after a while, Carlos and Maria leave the restaurant too.

Another night, Carlos and Maria go out. Carlos grabs Maria’s hand, and they go out to the movies to see “Mama”. At the movies, Carlos doesn’t know anyone. But Maria knows two people. She knows two friends, Eli and Kristal. Maria sees Eli and Kristal and asks Carlos, “Do you know Eli and Kristal?” Carlos responds, “No, I don’t know them”. Then, Eli and Kristal walk toward Carlos and Maria. Maria talks with them. While they talk, Carlos sees that Kristal has very interesting beautiful hair. He wants the hair. He stands up, grabs the hair, and sits down. No one knows that Carlos grabbed the hair because he’s a good kleptomaniac. After a few minutes, Kristal cries out, “My hair! Where is my hair?” Carlos responds, “What a mystery!”. Eli and Kristal leave the movie theater to look for Kristal’s hair, and after a while, Carlos and Maria leave the movie theater too.

When Carlos and Maria leave the theater, they walk to Carlos’ car. In the car, Carlos grabs Maria’s hand and says in a very serious tone, “Maria. I want to be honest. I have a confession. I have a terrible problem. I can’t control myself…I am a kleptomaniac. Tonight, I grabbed your grandpa’s shoes and Kristal’s hair. Maria looks at Carlos for a moment, silent. Then, she laughs! She says, “Carlos, you ARE perfect! Because…I have a confession too. I am a kleptomaniac! In the restaurant, I grabbed the chocolate fountain. In the movie theater, I stole twenty plates of nachos. Carlos laughs too. Then, he grabs Maria and they kiss.

  2. Thank you Martina. I love this unit! It fits perfectly into what I am working on right now! I needed a sabe/conoce/sale story and decided to write something – then I found this AMAZING story ready to roll! Can’t wait to start tomorrow!
