Readings for Hispanic Heritage Month

Posted by

¡Feliz Mes de la Hispanidad! Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, and I have been working hard to create readings to discuss our nation’s Hispanic heritage with my students during this month-long celebration. I will be posting the readings on TpT as I finish them, but for starters I have four (the first two are free!):

  • Background/history of the month and authentic reading: The background and history readings are meant to be projected and read as a class. The first page is for first year students, the second page is an addition for second and third year students. The authentic reading is an article from the website (in Spanish) about the month. It includes comprehension and discussion questions.
  • Reading about Hispanic influences in the traditional American diet. This includes two readings; one for Level 1 students and one for 2/3 students. Both include comprehension questions and personalized questions for class discussion.
  • Readings about how Detroit’s Latino population is revitalizing its eco nomy. This contains three leveled readings for 1, 2, and 3+ with accompanying comprehension and discussion questions.
  • Reading about Gina Chavez
