Hispanic Heritage Month Writing Idea

Posted by

Biography.com has a nice variety of fairly short biographies (written in English) of twelve different people from Spanish-speaking countries. For a writing activity, I had my students choose two and summarize them in Spanish. My directions were to include

  1. Where and when the person was born
  2. Where s/he lives (or lived)
  3. Something about his/her personal life (one-two sentences)
  4. Why s/he is famous (two-three sentences)
  5. When s/he died (if applicable)
Easy peasy! I like having the students read in English but write summaries in Spanish because it prevents them from just copying chunks from the original text, as is their habit.

      1. That was a Pingback from another post–the text “click here for another idea” was text on another post that brings readers to this post. You can click on the heading for that pingback comment to see the post that it appeared in.
